Nikon SAP Support

Nikon is well known for its reputation as a world leader in imaging products, and its technologies continue to play a significant role in defining the photographic industry. Beyond photography, Nikon is also the leading innovator of precision optical lens and imaging devices. The European Headquarters coordinates and supports all business activities across Nikon’s European markets.

The SAP Support team supports +/- 500 SAP users from 3 separate business units (imaging / instruments / precision) in 15 countries in Europe. This encomprises the SAP modules SD, MM, CS, FICO; SAP BW (reporting / business planning) and SAP PI (integration platform). Recently the environment has been complemented with the tools Winshuttle (data conversion, SAP integration and SharePoint) Readsoft (Vendor Invoice Management) and Mobile Xpense (Travel Expense Management). These last tools are integrated to the SAP R/3 backend.

A small selection of the projects our consultant has worked on:

  • Improve the customer service process and spare parts inventory management for Nikon Instruments in 6 countries within Europe. This has been accomplished by the implementation of the SAP modules MM/SD/CS in combination with Winshuttle. Calls (on location) are logged via a SharePoint form, which is used to directly create a quotation. Via the Winshuttle interface, all data is processed directly in SAP, and the created quotation is sent via email.
  • Simplifying the travel expense procedure for Nikon Precision Europe, where via a SharePoint form travel expenses can be claimed, and sent for approval to the employees’ manager. After approval, the data is entered / processed in SAP directly via the Winshuttle interface.

Future projects and challenges:

  • Improve the sales planning and allocation process for Nikon Imaging Europe. Products are centrally purchases and delivered, further distribution within Europe is directed from Amsterdam.
  • Develop SAP tools for the entry and analysis of the sales budget for Nikon Imaging. Via an interface the data will be made available in BW for further analysis and budget planning.
